Panelists: Ashley Wilcox, C. Wess Daniels, Oscar Lugusa Malande, Derek Brown, and Phil Baisley

Ashley M. Wilcox is the author of The Women’s Lectionary: Preaching the Women of the Bible throughout the Year (forthcoming from Westminster John Knox Press) and founder of Church of Mary Magdalene. She is a graduate of Candler School of Theology and Willamette University College of Law. Ashley teaches preaching at Candler School of Theology and her online class, Preaching with Confidence. Her writing has been published in Friends Journal, Western Friend, Quaker anthologies, and on www.ashleymwilcox.com.

C. Wess Daniels is an author, educator, and theologian living with his family in Greensboro, NC. With a PhD from Fuller Theological Seminary, Wess serves as director of the Friends Center and Quaker Studies at Guilford College. His publications include: A Convergent Model of Renewal: Remixing the Quaker Tradition in a Participatory Culture (2015), and Resisting Empire: The Book of Revelation as Resistance (2019). Oscar Lugusa is a member of Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Vihiga Yearly Meeting in Kenya and holds an MA from Earlham School of Religion. He is a doctoral student at University of Birmingham. Oscar teaches at Friends Theological College Kaimosi. He contributed “Quakers in Africa” to Cambridge Companion to Quaker Studies (2018), and “The Concept of Hierarchy and Doing Ministry in the Church: Evaluating the Roles of Leaders and the Use of Authority in Quakerism” in Quaker Religious Thought #133 (2019).

Derek Brown is Vice President for Distance Learning at Barclay College, where he also serves as dean of the School of Graduate Studies. His PhD from Johnson University explores Kansas Yearly Meeting’s adoption of the pastoral system. His first book, On Quakers and Pastors, provides a practical outline of a Friends pastoral ethos, and he is currently working on a monograph for the Brill Research Perspectives in Quaker Studies series. Derek is married to his college sweetheart, Jessica, and has twin daughters.

Phil Baisley, author of The Same, But Different: Ministry and the Quaker Pastor (2019), is professor of pastoral ministry at Earlham School of Religion. He lives outside Richmond, Indiana on the PB&J Ranch with his family and a menagerie of horses, dogs, cats, snakes, lizards, turtles, spiders, and Magee the mini mule.
